About Me
Making art is how I make sense of the world.
For me, creating something with my hands has always been grounding. It's where I slow down, connect to what I'm actually feeling, and process the thoughts that don't have words yet. There's a deep calm that comes with it, and I find myself returning to it again and again in different forms.
I've been building my creative practice across four cities for the last 15 years. Growing up in Perth, moving to Melbourne in my mid-twenties, Brisbane in my thirties, and now Sydney's Northern Beaches at the start of my forties. Moving around could have been unsettling, and at times it certainly wasn't easy. But it gave me a perspective and resilience that I'm not sure would have been possible without so many transitions. Art was always the constant. And every new environment brought new light, new colour, new energy that found its way into my work.
That practice began with handmade products, textiles and prints that carried my illustrated work into the world. In recent years, my practice has shifted further toward painting. Toward original works that feel more intuitive, more immediate and more connected to the experience of making.
Art was always the constant.
- Claire Ritchie
My paintings are bold and joyful. They're a celebration of emotion, of vulnerability, of the messy, beautiful process of being human. I paint intuitively, letting colour and mark-making lead. Each piece is a reflection of where I am, what I'm carrying, what I'm releasing.
Alongside my original work, I collaborate with brands and businesses whose values align with mine, licensing artwork for products created with intention and care.
My original paintings are available through my online shop and I hope one finds its way to you.
I hope that when you spend time with my work, you feel something. That you feel seen. That colour reaches something in you that words sometimes can't. That's why I make it. That's what I'm sharing.
